Hardly. While alli hit the market yesterday, Zimulti, another weight loss drug, suffered a set back. A preliminary FDA panel unanimously rejected this new weight loss pill, citing that there is not enough evidence to support the safety of the drug.
While the side effects of alli, as far as we know, are mainly physical discomfort, Zimulti’s risks stem from its psychological effects. The drug has been associated with depression to the point of suicidal tendencies. Just because the FDA has not approved it, though, doesn’t mean it isn’t available. Americans can travel abroad, where it is available in 14 countries.
Zimulti is more than just a weight loss medication, though. It does work to suppress the appetite, but it also helps to lower triglycerides and cholesterol, and it may help people stop smoking.
Still, it is touted as a weight loss drug, and every single pharmaceutical company is working on their own weight loss miracle. I’d hate to sound preachy, but wouldn’t it make much more sense to exercise and eat properly, rather than put yourself at risk for depression or butt leakage?
