Alright, here is my opinion. People are confusing goals with a vision. A vision is not a goal, but you need to make goals to reach your vision. A vision is born out of core values and an example might be Mary's core value and belief is that by being lean is the best path to being healthy. Her vision from this of herself may be of a lean healthy lady. So tranfer her vision to an AIM to be lean and healthy. With her vision and aim in place small targets need to be set to help her achieve her aim and these goals have to be in line with her values and belief. This is the important motivator here, in line with their belief. If the goals are not in line, why would they want to achieve this? These goals also have to be transparent as peoples values may change with new experiences. As a PT i dedicate much time to my cleints and their goals. But i never set goals until i am fully aware of their aim in life, which is born from their vision of themselves, born from their core values and beliefs.
