Cycling inside
With nearly 2 million participants, according to IHRSA, indoor cycling is one of the most popular group fitness classes at gyms all over the world. To the novice, it might seem somewhat intimidating. For outdoor cyclists, as the NY Times reported earlier this year, indoor cycling had a stigma attached to it.

"Still, as popular as indoor cycling has become, its gimmickry has turned some people off. Classes have been known to include mini push-ups on the handlebars and standing in the saddle and balancing yourself (Look ma! No hands!). Outdoor cyclists and committed athletes typically find these moves pointless."

While the balancing act does reflect core strength, nobody can argue that the mini pushups, and dance moves we've all seen, are somewhat absurd. Even more so when an entire class starts "shimmying" on their bikes in unison.

However, as the NY Times article goes on to point out, there is a move back towards more functional indoor training for outdoor cyclists that is the trend. Featured FitFiend.com FitPro and one of the best indoor cycling coaches out there, Robert Pennino, is actually quoted in the article about how his indoor workouts are the same as his outdoor workouts.
